We thought it might be nice to take a trial run in the caravan to North Queensland for three weeks. This way, we could test out the caravan and all that we plan to take with us on our adventure around Australia. So far so good, well in my opionion, I’m having a great time, and any problems we encounter Phil fixes. My naievette is bliss…..
However, Phil is experiencing a lot of different challenges. We’ve discovered that some things don’t work as they should. For example, we discovered that our 3-way fridge was only working on 240volt (basically a one way fridge, it didn’t work on 12volt or gas). Before we left home, we found that the fridge didn’t work on 12volt, which we would need whilst on the road. Phil then spent a good half day fault finding why it didn’t work and discovered that the wiring was incorrectly connected to the isolator switch, which he then fixed. Then, on our first night in a paddock on the side of the road, we discovered that the fridge would not work on gas. Every time we ignited the gas the fridge would run for about one minute and then the gas would stop flowing. This went on for about 30minutes until Phil came back into the caravan with one of our awning poles. He then extended the pole, so that the pole was mounted against the gas flow switch and the wall of the caravan, (by-passing the thermo-couple, which I’ve just learnt). I thought it was brilliant, the pole was even high enough that we didn’t hit our heads when we walked under it.
All in all we are having a great time. We took two and half days to get to Lucinda and the Patrol towed the caravan without any problems and we are now safely at our destination.
Now we just need the weather to come right, the wind has not stopped since our arrival. But we won’t let that stops us….
